AFFE MIT SCHÄDEL ("ape with skull") or otherwise known as AFFE, EINEN SCHÄDEL BETRACHTEND ("monkey contemplating a human skull") is a famous work by the late-19th century sculptor Hugo Rheinhold. The ape is engaged in assessment and measurement holding a human skull, echoing the scene in Shakespeare's Hamlet. The ape is in a bold examination of ourselves through eyes that bear witness to the disproportionate leverage historically awarded humankind.
Like ape with skull, Ape Studios is dedicated to create, manage and educate with art that is grounded in artistic research and creative process. To develop a sustainable eco-system where art-makers and art-managers work in unison, collaboratively and responsibly. To provide the next generation with the right tools as they embark on their own journey in the Singapore arts scene.
